INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAMME

Admission

Calls for admission are sent out at the end of June/beginning of July for the following year. The deadline to apply is usually at the end of August/beginning of September.

It is recommended that anyone wishing to take part in Maumaus Independent Study (ISP) in the future subscribes to the Maumaus newsletter.

Interviews are conducted online by the programme director in September. During the interview, a detailed explanation of how the Maumaus ISP operates is provided to ascertain whether it is the right context for the applicant at this stage of their artistic career.

Admissions are announced around the end of September, allowing accepted participants time to prepare for their stay in Lisbon, fundraise and, if necessary, apply for visas.

For the 2027 ISP edition, applicants should take the following into consideration:

– Applications should be submitted via email to maumaus@maumaus.org (submission deadline is 3 September 2026).
– The application should include a motivation letter, a CV and a portfolio documenting examples of work the applicant considers most relevant to their current practice. An interview (online) will follow and will determine the final selection for acceptance on the Programme.
– The 2027 edition of the ISP starts on 7 January, and runs until 22 July 2027, with a one-week break at Carnival and a two-week spring break (dates tbc).
