In the framework of Loretta Fahrenholz’s solo exhibition at Lumiar Cité, the artist will be in conversation with art historian Sabeth Buchmann and curator Jürgen Bock. In line with revised Covid-19 recommendations, we are cancelling the previously announced finissage with the artist at Lumiar Cité.

For her first ever solo exhibition in Portugal, the artist and lm-maker Loretta Fahrenholz premiered her latest video, produced in collaboration with K8 Howl and Jak Ritger (TRLLM) for a concert by American artist and musician Kim Gordon. Installed at Lumiar Cité, this collage of street scenes from various US states forms the backdrop for a series of photographs taken during the artist’s summer 2020 residency in Lisbon. The images on the plasma screen showing the lm merge with the medium- and large-format photographs, creating an installation that encompasses the space, the effects of which unfold both inside and outside the gallery.

Sabeth Buchmann is an art historian and critic who lives and works in Berlin and Vienna. She is Professor of History of Modern and Postmodern Art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. Together with Helmut Draxler, Clemens Krümmel and Susanne Leeb she co-edits PoLyPen, a series on art criticism and political theory, published by b books, Berlin. Recent publications include: Putting Rehearsals to the Test. Practices of Rehearsal in Fine Arts, Film. Theater, Theory, and Politics (edited with Ilse Lafer and Constanze Ruhm, 2016); Textile Theorien der Moderne. Alois Riegl in der Kunstkritik (edited with Rike Frank, 2015); Hélio Oiticica, Neville D’Almeida and others: Block-Experiments in Cosmococa (with Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz, 2013); Film Avant-garde Biopolitik (edited with Helmut Draxler and Stephan Geene, 2009); Denken gegen das Denken. Produktion – Technologie – Subjektivität bei Sol LeWitt, Yvonne Rainer und Hélio Oiticica (2007); Art After Conceptual Art (edited with Alexander Alberrro, 2006).

Covid-19: Maximum four visitors in the gallery at any time. Face masks are compulsory.

The exhibition is supported by Associação São Bartolomeu dos Alemães em Lisboa and Goethe-Institut Portugal.
