But what I have got?
Let me tell ya what I’ve got
That nobody’s gonna take away
Ana Jotta presents a film and stages a cinema – the artist as producer and film director? The title of the film: SEMPRE. Screening times? Not really, only opening times of an art gallery on a cinema poster.
I got my hair on my head
I got my brains, I got my ears
I got my eyes, I got my nose
I got my mouth, I got my smile
At the centre of the exhibition a screen, the artist’s main surface to act out on, carefully installed on the upper level of the gallery, turned into a cinema, showing a film, her film.
I got my tongue, I got my chin
I got my neck, I got my boobies
I got my heart, I got my soul
I got my back, I got my sex.
Jotta’s film seems to be still, a frozen image like on a computer or a result of a film tear? Light is important, needed for seeing the art, but the art also needs to be protected from the light, turning the screen into the glittering surface we are so much looking forward to when going to the movies.
I got my arms, I got my hands
I got my fingers, I got my legs
I got my feet, I got my toes
I got my liver, I got my blood
Curtains everywhere. Who does not remember the hilarious Pepsodent publicity in one of the cinemas of Quarteto. The cinema foyer installed with the same care – the ante-chambre turns into a main chambre on its own terms, where vaccination status is checked and we wait to be admitted into the cinema: Ana Jotta provides seating and we glance at the décor – what a décor! – and at a poster that supposedly should convince us to buy a ticket: entrance is free…
Got life, I got my life
